YOUR TREATMENT

What to expect in a session

A Shiatsu session usually takes 45 minutes however, the first session will be slightly longer.
In your first visit, we'll complete a health questionnaire about your medical history, general health, diet and lifestyle to tailor the treatment to your precise needs.
A Shiatsu treatment takes place in a padded mat or futon at floor level, although it is possible to receive Shiatsu sitting on a chair or on a massage table for clients with mobility restrictions or who can not lie down. The client stays fully clothed throughout but is advised to wear loose clothing to allow the body to be stretched.
No creams or oils are used, therefore allergies reactions are avoid.

Guidelines for receiving Shiatsu

-
Please bring or wear loose warm, comfortable clothing, preferably cotton, e.g. sweatshirt, tracksuit trousers and cotton socks.
-
Do not eat heavily in the one hour prior the treatment.
-
Do not drink alcohol before or after each treatment.
-
After treatment drink plenty of water to smooth the flow of changes through the system.
-
If possible, avoid strenuous or stressful activities after your session.

Can Shiatsu cause side effects?

Shiatsu is generally safe to have. You might have some mild side effects such as headache and muscle stiffness after treatment. You may also feel very tired. These symptoms usually pass within a few hours, but you should contact your therapist for advice if they continue.

A regular maintenance program of Shiatsu is an excellent way to maintain wellness and improve vitality. This schedule will vary for each person.

What to consider before booking a treatment?

It should be avoided if you:
-
have an infectious disease.
-
are suffering from any acute, feverish illness.
-
have internal bleeding or blood clots.
-
have had a major surgery during the last 6 weeks.

Shiatsu is safe for people with cancer as it offers them a non-pharmacologic method to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life throughout the course of the illness. Research indicates that acupressure is relatively effective and safe for common cancer-related symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and insomnia.
