ABOUT ME

Judith Sotoca (MrSS, MSc, Dip, PTLLS)

I am member and registered Shiatsu Practitioner with The Shiatsu Society and The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). I am also fully insured for my practice through Balens (Specialist Insurer for Health and Well-being Professionals).

  • Diploma as Shiatsu Practitioner (MrSS) from The Shiatsu College (London). The College’s professional Shiatsu Practitioner Diploma course is unique in the UK in being nationally accredited with Laser Learning Awards, as well as being fully ratified by the Shiatsu Society (UK).

  • Diploma in 'Sotai Ho' from The Japanese School of Shiatsu (Madrid) which is the only centre outside of Japan where courses are endorsed by the Japan Shiatsu College (Tokyo) and recognized fully by the Ministry of Health of Japan since 1957. I have trained under Master Hiroshi Miura who is one of the greatest exponents of this therapy at an international level. Sotai Ho is a systematic form of active and passive exercises used to correct imbalances in the structural integrity of the body.

  • Continuing with my development in Shiatsu, I have also participated in workshops in Spain about 'Women's issues and well-being' with The European School of Shiatsu under Brian Carling. Likewise, 'Treating musculoskeletal pain' with focus in back and neck pain and also, 'Manual therapy techniques to relieve pain, improve range of motion and mobilize joints' with The Japanese School of Shiatsu under Master Shigeru Onoda.

  • Volunteer experience as an advocate with WASSR (Westminster Advocacy Service for Senior Residents in London), Mentor and Outreach training with CVS and RNIB and Support worker with children and young people with mental and physical disabilities with TAKE-A-BREAK in Warwickshire.

  • I attained my master’s degree (MSc) and Diploma (Dip) in Development Studies from Birkbeck College, University of London. Teaching qualifications from City and Guilds PTLLS and CELTA at Warwickshire College (WCG). I am fluent Spanish speaker.

Shiatsu has deepened my understanding in the ancient system of health and wellness framework of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) while incorporating Western medicine's principles of anatomy, physiology and pathology. Moreover, It has deepened my appreciation about how using some aspect of Western and Oriental medicine together can provide great support for the self-curative processes of our body and mind. Shiatsu is particularly powerful when combined with attention to diet, exercise and some form of self-reflection. Shiatsu is a manual bodywork therapy that has had a profoundly positive effect on my life and I endeavour to share that with my clients.

As well as running my own private Shiatsu Practice "THE SHIATSU STUDIO" at Leamington Spa, I offer Shiatsu sessions at "THE LIFEWAYS COMPLEMENTARY HEALTH CENTRE " in Stratford-Upon-Avon as well.

My aim is to create a safe, warm and welcoming therapeutic space where each person will be treated as a unique individual.
